Asa Bell Eades homesteaded in the New Raymer area in 1914. Before coming here he was captain of a ship and operated a fleet that hauled freight on the Mississippi River from Booneville, Mo., in the late 1800's. He and his wife Anna (Roach), a school teacher, had three daughters; Edna, Nellie, and Alda before moving to Colorado. They lived a short time in Creede where they ran a grocery store and post office and were part owner in a mine. Another daughter, Hulda, was born in Creede and in 1902 a son, Asa Bell Jr. (Bud) was born. However, he was born in Western
Nebraska at Anna's sisters home on the advice of the doctor in Creede who said the altitude was too high. When A.B. Eades Jr. was 12 years old his father homesteaded at New Raymer. He graduated from New Raymer School and then went to Denver and graduated from Barnes School of Business.
