He was one of the first "Committee of Safety," and signed the "Association Test," 5 Jun 1776. He went to Ticonderoga in 1777 with Col. Stark for 2 mos. He was killed by a fall from a horse.

James Dustin was the son of William Dustin and Cora Dickson. In 1910 James was living with his parents and siblings in Grand Rapids. He was working as a brakeman on a railroad. He married to unknown in 1912 and then lived in Reedsburg. His wife left him in 1913. James committed suicide by poison at the crowded Reedsburg train station in January, 1915.
