Here is an interesting find that deals with Aunt Dordy! Hope our decendants can read and enjoy this email!
Hello-
My name is Howard Parthum. I have been doing a remodel on a house in Gunnison on Ruby Ave.
In the attic I came across a few old children's books. One of them has a name written in it Dolores Ann Kropfinger from Fay. One says Merry Christmas to Gene from Lena, and another says Christmas 1905 to Mary from Julia.
I searched Kropfinger and found your pages at http://www.hannahduston.com/index2.html where Dolores is listed (and a Lena Kropfinger.
I hobby in genealogy, and know that sometimes these things are fun to own by a family member. (sometimes we have all we want of them too!) The books have minimal financial value ($20-30 each from what I have seen), but if you would like them, I will be happy to send them to you for $5 total mailing costs.. They are dirty but complete, and considering where I found them in the attic, in fairly good shape.
Let me know. Happy treemaking!
Howard
I talked to my Mom this morning and she was thrilled! She told me it was their house on Ruby Ave. She said she didn't remember an attic there and that she had the room upstairs. I will be giving her the material and she wants it to pass on and stay within the family. Dolores had three children, my cousins, and after my Mom, the book may go to one of them!
Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness! My web site deals mostly with the Dustin line, on the Myers side. At one point I only had information on my grandfather, Rudolph and his sisters, Malche and half sister Lena. We knew nothing more about Kropfinger side. In the social security records, they were the only Kropfingers in the US. I went to Germany with the Air National Guard and could find no information on the name Kropfinger. Most Germans found it to be as strange a name as we in the U.S. did. A lady by the name of Heimgartner, from Germany, found my web site about 10 years ago! She was a Kropfinger cousin. She was able to give me a lot of family members from Germany and helped us to find more of our Kropfinger roots!
My Mom and I find this offer by you to be as exciting as it was to learn of Kropfingers in Germany.
Please send pics of the home, as I'm sure my Mom will enjoy seeing them! My Dad will enjoy too, as it's where he met my Mom! They are now in their 80's, but doing well and actually have a computer and can navigate well on it!
I will send you the expenses promptly!
Thanks again!
Steve
From Mom and Dordy's sister!
I am just so overwhelmed by this news that I don't know if I even showed how much it meant to me. After I was able to digest it and realize what has happened I cannot believe it. This goes to show you how old homes sometimes have things in them you never would have known they were there. As I think back I think the closet in my room had a door that opened into an open space and some of it was made for a closet. Maybe I could have gone back into it and found the attic but didn't really think about it until now. I am having a lot of thrills just re-living back those days. The room I had was probably part of the attic but was made into a room. It was sort of "L" shaped and had quite a bit of room but it was funny shaped so hard to fit things in. I do remember my bed against a wall that was probably part of the attic and if I looked across the room to the east it had a window in what would have been the short space of the "L". Not sure if there was another window in the room or not but if so, it would have been to the north. The stairs to the room went up from the kitchen and it was heated by the kitchen stove thru a vent from the kitchen to the upstairs room. Not a lot of heat but it did work. Well, this was a wonderful surprise for me and also for you and we will be anxious to see what comes of it. I do hope he sends pics. When my dad bought the house I was beginning high school and he re-roofed it and also put siding on it. Your dad and I spent many days in the swing on the front porch. HA! Got to go now. Today is a work day. Love, Mom
