Samuel “Dustin” served as a private in the American Revolution. He served four months, six days from Mar. 7, 1778 to July 13, 1778 as a private in Capt. Daniel Reynolds’ Company, Col. Steven Peabody’s Regiment and again in the same company from Sep. 16 to Nov. 16, 1778 for two additional months. This regiment was raised in New Hampshire for Continental service in Rhode Island and was discharged in Rhode Island on Dec. 30, 1778. He was also listed as Samuel Dustin, age 19, who joined from Halestown, Hillsborough County, in a listing of New Levies who joined the New Hampshire line and was mustered in Camp by Major William Scott.
Samuel and most of his descendants spell their surname “Dusten”. Samuel Dusten was living at of Grafton, NY in 1810. He executed a will on Apr. 26, 1811 in which he named his wife and all of his living children.
Samuel Dusten died July 29, 1811 at Grafton, NY, age 50 years, 3 months, 26 days. Margaret Dustin died Mar. 20, 1813, age 49 years, 10 months, 26 days. They were buried in Bonesteel Cemetery, Grafton, NY. By 1985 the acid rain had rendered their tombstones undecipherable.
